The good news is that a suitable site in Stillorgan for the William Orpen Sculpture has been agreed, the bad news is that it will not be possible to erect the sculpture in September and has been postponed until next year.
This is due to the Stillorgan Shopping reconstruction. The new owners of the Shopping Centre, their Architect and the Sculptor have agreed a site with appropriate landscaping.
The sculpture was cast by Rowan Gillespie in his Blackrock workshop.
No doubt you will all agree that the sculpture pictured above is a beautiful tribute to William Orpen and as he died in 1931 he won’t mind waiting another 6 months!
