This had a detrimental effect on the overall development of the greater Dublin area, with resulting poverty, underemployment and appalling housing conditions. However the townships of Rathmines, Pembroke, Blackrock, Kingstown, Blackrock, Dalkey, Killiney, Clontarf, Kilmainham and Drumcondra achieved much in their own areas.
