Crime Prevention

Mount Merrion Residents, a message from the Blackrock Community Policing Team:

At Blackrock Garda Station we have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the MMRA and Mount Merrion Community for many years. While Mount Merrion remains a relatively low crime area, incidents can and do happen so we wish to make you aware of the following crime prevention advice.

Always ensure your home is secure, including locking doors and windows. Do not keep large amounts of cash at home. Be sure to photograph and record details of jewellery and other valuables to help us locate them in the unlikely event of them being lost or stolen. The Garda Property App available on Smart Phones is a useful tool for doing this.

Beware of suspicious callers to your door. Never hand over cash and avoid engaging with door to door traders, even if they appear legitimate. Alarms, sensor lights and CCTV cameras can all help add security to your home and property.

Don’t keep valuables in your car and ensure it’s locked at all times. The majority of thefts from cars involve cars left unlocked overnight.

Online fraud also remains a constant concern, so never click on links received in texts and never provide account details over the phone.

Please report any incidents or suspicious activity to Gardaí at Blackrock Garda Station on 01 6665200 or at 999. The Gardaí, both uniformed and plain clothes, perform multiple patrols daily in Mount Merrion and we respond to all calls logged with us. However residents like yourselves remain our eyes and ears and can be a vital resource in preventing and prosecuting crime, so please continue to keep in touch.
