MMRA Winter Art Competition 2020
Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry to the inaugural MMRA Winter Art Competition. The idea was to give residents young and old something a little fun and engaging to do during lockdown, and to support local businesses with prize vouchers to be redeemed locally.
It was wonderful to see the ideas and artistic flair that flowed from the theme ‘Wildlife & Gardens of Mount Merrion’. 17 roads were represented across all ages from 5 years up to 93! We have certainly found some hidden art treasures within Mount Merrion.

‘Robin in Deerpark’ by Clara Daly (age 9)
I saw a robin and it landed on a branch I thought it looked very pretty
‘Our Winter Garden’ by Madeleine Browne (age 8)
Madeleine has created a 3d artwork of our Mount Merrion garden at Christmas time with snowman, tree, shed and images of our resident robin redbreast. Also in the picture is Madeleine with her sister Eleanor. Madeleine used all recycled materials to make her artwork including An Post parcel box, tissue paper, cardboard roll, lollipop sticks and cardboard box.
‘Robin’ by Aoibheann Cronin (age 7).
Aoibheann is an avid bird watcher! During lockdown one, when school was closed, her wonderful childminder bought a bird spotting book and a set of binoculars so they spent many mornings in Deerpark identifying birds! Aoibheann loves lots of birds, two of her favourites are the Robin and the Blue tit, her two entries. She has great attention to detail, you may recognise the gate near the Tennis Courts in Deerpark and the eggs of both birds being the correct colours for their species (speckled blue for the Robin and speckled brown and white for the Blue Tit).

‘Dog in the Grass’ by Maria Daly (age 14)
This picture was inspired by my dog Dobby, he likes running in long grass and I took a photo of him sniffing a buttercup. It is a watercolour painting.
‘Reindeer’ Park! by Spencer Jordan (age 11)
Inspiration: I thought seeing it is Christmas, it might be nice to turn our lovely Deerpark into Reindeer Park instead and add a bit of Christmas spirit to it.
