Phase 6a: E-Spine
Launched on Sunday January 26th, 2025
The 46A, beloved of song (you know the one) and yore, is no more, along with the 63, 84, 145 and several other routes. In their place Transport For Ireland have introduced two new 24-hour services (called Spines) serving Mount Merrion – the E1 and E2.
Both routes run every ten minutes throughout the day and night, passing Stillorgan (bypass), Trees Road and St Thomas’ Church and crossing town through St Stephens Green and O’Connell St. Both serve UCD, Trinity and DCU.
The E1 runs from Ballywaltrim in Bray to Northwood in Santry.
The E2 runs from Dun Laoghaire to Ballymun (passing IKEA).
On the other side of the estate, the 11 bus route continues to run every half hour from Sandyford Industrial Estate. However, it now longer goes to Wadelai Park. Instead, it diverts at Parnell Square to Infirmary Road and The Phoenix Park (as the old 46A did). Wadelai Road can now be reached by transfering at Parnell Square to the new Number 19 route.
The 47 service is unaffected, continuing to serve St Vincent’s Hospital and Belarmine.
