While the public house may call to mind the Victorian era, the story of drinking in Dublin taverns goes back much further. In this talk, Donal Fallon will explore the importance of bars, taverns and public houses in the story of Dublin.

Characters as diverse as James Larkin, Theobald Wolfe Tone, Con Houlihan and Nell McCafferty all feature.

Donal Fallon is the presenter of the Three Castles Burning podcast, and the author of several books  about Dublin city, including the Irish Book Award nominated ‘Lamplighters of the Phoenix Park.’ His next book is a social and cultural history of the Dublin public house.
