Birds of the Deerpark

The park and the woods are home to a large selection of Ireland’s native garden and woodland birds, as well as the occasional visiting seabird from the nearby coast. Cornell university’s massive bird database (ebird.org) lists 24 species in three surveys of the Deeerpark. I’ve added a few others that I’ve seen over the years, so why not take this list with you next time for a game of Bird Bingo. Or keep it by the kitchen window and see how many of these birds visit your garden. Use the links below each bird for more information and photos, or download the Merlin app to help you identify the birds you meet.

If you want, you can get involved with one of Bird Watch Ireland’s regular surveys. You can also upload your sightings to the Ebird database. Let us know if you’ve spotted a species not listed here.
