Little Library on The Rise

Did you know that there is a Little Free Library here in Mount Merrion?  It is situated outside a house on The Rise just across from the main Church car park.  The aim of the library is to inspire a love of reading, build a community spirit and spark creativity by fostering neighbourhood book exchanges. The idea is to leave a book and take a book!  Why not give it a try?   You can read more about the Little Free Library project...

Public Meeting re Union Cafe Redevelopment this Friday 7.30pm

PUBLIC MEETING  Fitzwilliam Room in the Community Centre this Friday 27th April at 7.30 pm Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has granted planning permission (16th April 2018) for the redevelopment of the Union Café site and we need your support in appealing a key aspect of this development to An Bord Pleanála. If this project proceeds as planned, our quiet suburb could become one of Dublin’s major party locations and could devalue residential property in Mount Merrion. What is planned? Fifty (50) good quality apartments, which the MMRA believe is acceptable A major three (3) storey pub/function room party venue on the top floor with open terraces 30 metres from residential dwellings on North Avenue The MMRA has serious reservations regarding this planned pub/function room. Our primary concern is that we see it as a potential “Wetherspoon’s type” sports bar/party venue, and which we expect will result in frequent late-night openings and consequent noise, nuisance and anti-social behaviour.  In recent times, we have seen significant anti-social behaviour after the outdoor screenings of football matches/ other sporting events at this venue. The location of the planned pub is approximately 30 meters from the houses on North Avenue and the balcony looks directly onto the fronts of these houses and indeed onto the rear of houses on The Rise. The proposed pub’s first and second floor open terraces are located 2 meters from North Avenue at the Deerpark Road Junction and pose serious risks to road users. What are we asking of you? Inform yourself on the detail of this proposed development by attending a PUBLIC MEETING  Fitzwilliam Room in the Community Centre this Friday 27th April...

Mount Merrion Annual Clean Up

Thank you to all who helped on Saturday. A dozen large Blue bags of rubbish were collected. Ed Maguire provided free cones to all young participants and Supervalu on the Rise had a Manager and three lads cleaning the weeds and rubbish from the roadway from the roundabout to the shops. A great community effort.
