Mount Merrion Historical Society are hosting an illustrated talk by Brian Hollinshead on October 5th. A story about tracing, mapping, finding and then walking some of the forgotten little rivers of South Dublin. Brian will explain some of the sources and aids used in planning the outings. Some will be more familiar by name as their names have been preserved in roads, estates and other local features while others are treated differently by the various sport territories they visit.
Also explanations about why some are important as boundaries, not just of a historical nature but also of present day significance. One gem of a waterway in North Dublin will also be discussed. There will be both historic and modern map images to illustrate how prominently many of those rivers have been mapped, in some cases since the late 1700s.
